  • Overview

    The Special Projects Specialist will be responsible for coordinating providing administrative functions and projects for business and community engagement. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining the front desk, organizing meetings and events.

    Responsibilities

    • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

      • Assist with the coordination of programs and initiatives for Special Projects and ensures project deliverables are met.
      • Lead or support special projects covering a broad range of mission activities, as directed.
      • Attend community outreach events and meetings (as needed) and report out to supervisor.
      • Build and manage positive relationships with committees and networks (both internal and external), community partnerships, professional organizations and other stakeholders.
      • Provide training & support to staff on the usage of engagement tools and plans.
      • Assist with the coordination of job fairs at the Roanoke Jobs Campus. Support the job fair and business engagement activities of sites throughout the GIV territory.
      • Serves as a point of contact (as needed) for walk-ins or phone inquiries regarding Mission Services.
      • Assist with various recruiting and outreach functions as needed.
      • Assist in the development and implementation of the customer relationship management system and utilize the system to improve levels of engagement and generate engagement data
      • Support corporate receptionist and volunteer personnel as well as program participants.
      • Develop tracking processes to capture data on partner activity and compile reports of activity as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience, Competencies, and Education
    • Associate’s degree in business administration, human services, or related field, preferred.
    • Experience working with populations with barriers to employment
    • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
    • Team orientation and ability to work well with others in a highly collaborative environment.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Work under pressure, meet deadlines and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously
    • Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze and interpret most complex documents relating to federal regulations under WIOA guidelines. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints.

    • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to perform basic mathematical equations
    • Reasoning ability
    • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking of a wide range of practical problems
    • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract or concrete variables  
    • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    • A valid driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive personal vehicle on company business. Additionally, an acceptable motor vehicle record based on Goodwill guidelines is required to drive a company vehicle or transport program participants.
