Overview

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys has a position open for a Day Support Specialist. The Day Support Specialist bears the primary responsibility for working with individuals enrolled in designated programs and assigned to their caseloads.  Day Support Specialist will ensure compliance with human rights regulations and service guidelines while adhering to policies, procedures, and other standards applicable to the programs.  Day Support Specialist will advise the organization as to the most efficient program for effective individual management.

 

Individuals programs include either 1) ID Waiver (those with varying degrees of intellectual disabilities that requires special attention in all aspects of daily routines), 2) Dually Diagnosed (those with ID and mental/emotional illnesses), or 3) Center-based Services (those with a broader range of disabilities). 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safety of those individuals in his/her charge via implementation of the safety procedures and policies of the organization. Responsible for reporting/correcting violations.  Assists with administering CPR, First Aid, and medication as necessary.
  • Acts as a Mandated Reporter as defined by the State of Virginia.
  • Maintains individual rights and confidentiality of individuals protected health information as required by HIPAA in all aspects of job duties and performance.
  • Maintains knowledge and implementation of agency, CARF and current regulations as provided by the Department of Medical Assistance (DMAS), the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), and Office of Licensure as it relates to the specific individual service.
  • Maintains industry standards for Quality Control. (ISO 9001:2008) (Western Division only).
  • Assists in coordination of services to meet individual needs.
  • Responsible for the individualized provision of services to individuals enrolled in Group Day, Community Engagement, or Community Coaching services. Services may include but are not limited to the development of individualized community based activities for those individuals receiving Community Engagement and Community Coaching services. This may include the position spending periods of times of 3 hours or more in the community when needed.
  • Provides safe and reliable transportation from facility to the designated community sites for individuals using company vehicles.
  • When transporting individuals the employee is expected to abide by all federal, state, and local laws and regulations while operating a company vehicle motor vehicle.
  • Responsible for reviewing treatment and training to ensure that services are effectively carried out.
  • Develops individual program/service plans for individuals of the program that contains clear and measurable goals and objectives, including Individual Services Authorization Requests (ISARs), medical updates and releases in accordance with current regulations as provided by the Department of Medical Assistance (DMAS), the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), and Office of Licensure.
  • Meets with GIV staff, outside agency members, family members and advocates when appropriate to review individual progress, performance or proposed changes in services.
  • Counsels individuals on behavior and performance as necessary, consulting with other GIV staff and assuring required documentation is accomplished.
  • Responsible for management of individual files including the program plan, reviews and progress reports, and other required documentation in accordance with GIV records management policy and current regulations as provided by the Department of Medical Assistance (DMAS), the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), and Office of Licensure.
  • Conducts vocational and life skills training classes to engage and train individuals as necessary.
  • Participates in the individuals interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Consults with Youth and Day Support Services Director on a daily basis as applicable.
  • Assists with monthly billing and invoicing of individuals.
  • Assists with referrals and intake of new individuals.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:


Education, Experience and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience preferred in dealing with disabled populations.


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills

Basic skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability

High Skills:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and furnish in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.


Other

  • Must be able to successfully complete FBI and State background investigation and drug screen.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Virginia Department of Social Services registry search.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services fingerprinting and background check.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a Tuberculosis screening within 30 days of employment.       

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid State of Virginia driver’s license and proof of insurance required to drive personal car on company business.
  • Additionally, 3+ point DMV record required to drive company vehicle.

  • Must be able to successfully complete the following in-house training within the first 15 days of employment:
