Overview

Employees of Goodwill go to work each day just like everyone else. They stock shelves in retail stores, drive trucks, balance spreadsheets in accounting, manage people and much more. They earn their paycheck just like everyone else. But at the same time they are also earning a second paycheck. They are helping fund, through their work, training and job programs what will put people with employment barriers in our community back to work.

Goodwill currently has an opening for an I.T. Instructor for Workforce Development in Roanoke, VA. 


JOB PURPOSE: The Workforce Development Instructor is responsible for teaching and facilitating instructional content for participants through in person and online classes in accordance with curricula, program objectives, and class schedules. The instructor will assess and evaluate progress of participants; advising participants; monitoring progress, writing and facilitating progress reports; and performing other instructionally related duties as required.  

Responsibilities

  • Conduct organized classes at the instructional level to meet the requirements stated in the program, course description and lesson plans.
  • Conduct on-site instruction at designated sites throughout Goodwill of the Valleys territory. Traveling to various sites are required.
  • Advises and assists participants in achieving stated program and course objectives.
  • Assess participants to measure progress and evaluate effectiveness of teaching and learning.
  • Participate in the development of curriculum by evaluating course offerings, including the revision of course descriptions and course outlines.
  • Collects and maintains inventory of supplies, such as textbooks, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with the development of training programs and schedules based on program needs.
  • Maintain necessary records of participant enrollment, attendance, and progress. Prepare and submit reports as required.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and meetings to increase knowledge and personal growth as deemed appropriate or requested by immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to all participants and staff information.
  • Report to immediate supervisor and/or other appropriate personnel any condition which might jeopardize the health or safety of participants or the public.
  • Attends conferences, seminars and meetings to increase general knowledge and personal growth as deemed appropriate or requested by immediate supervisor. Keep current with new developments and knowledge in adult learning techniques
  • Perform other duties as directed.

 

Qualifications

Experience, Competencies and Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field required with preference to experience teaching.  Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the IT field and have experience working with students from a diverse background. Excellent written and oral communications, instructional design skills, and online learning required.


Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and course curriculum. Ability to effectively present learning in a classroom environment to various educational functioning levels and abilities.  Ability to instruct on the writing process and effective paragraph and essay writing.  Ability to effectively present classes online.

 

Mathematical Skills

Computation and Applied Mathematics: Ability to instruct beginning level mathematics from addition and subtraction to algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer/Technology/Digital Skills
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; ability to use digital media to communicate with participants; ability to use a learning management system to instruct adult learners.


Other
Knowledge of basic record-keeping skills, good time management.  The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, staff, and management.   Must be able to successfully complete State background investigation and drug screen.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have a valid state of Virginia driver’s license, and be able to provide proof of insurance. Additionally, 3+ point DMV record required to drive company vehicle.
